Grandweld recently carried out another major afloat repair job in Port Khalid, Sharjah.
This major repair job was challenging because the vessel was a bitumen carrier and it was necessary to work within and around bitumen tanks. Our teams carried out risk assessments and fully complied with safety precaution complete this job promptly, with excellent quality achieved.
The afloat repair work scope included:
Renewal of 70 tons of steel inside water ballast tanks, bitumen tanks, and main deck with the following breakdown.
10 tons steel renewal in forepeak ballast tanks adjacent to bitumen tanks(access work, insulation removal, damping wood removal, steel cropping, installation of back strip, steel fit-up, and welding ).
40 tons steel renewal in wing ballast tanks (8 nos) adjacent to bitumen tanks (staging, access work, installation of back strip, installation of 8 mm doubler plates over the existing stiffeners, and welding ).
15 tons steel renewal of standard steel renewal in way of bitumen tanks (cropping, fit up, and welding ).
5 tons steel renewal on the main deck on top of bitumen tanks(insulation removal, steel cropping, installation of back strip, steel fit-up, and welding ).
Removal of leaked bitumen prior to the steel renewal jobs.
NDT test for the complete aforementioned jobs (vacuum test ,MPI, DPT, and U.T).
Full overhauling of generator engine Cummins N855.
Renewed pipe lines (various locations).
