At Grandweld Shipyards, we believe that every successful vessel is built on a foundation of trust, performance, and precise engineering. This was once again demonstrated in our recently completed repair project for MT EASTERN LIGHT, managed by Oriental Gulf Ship Management. The project, spanning 40 days, was a testament to the capabilities of our team—particularly our high-performing Engine Department, which has earned its reputation for delivering complex 2-stroke engine solutions with efficiency and reliability.
Engine Works: The Heart of the Operation
With marine engine health being central to a vessel’s reliability, our focus on the main engine top overhaul and the complete overhaul of two auxiliary engines was critical. These overhauls ensured optimal engine performance and longevity. We also undertook alternator bearing repair, coolers servicing, and the calibration of all switchboard and safety valves, including PV valve overhauling. Such detailed engine maintenance is part of our core expertise and is a direct reflection of the depth of skill housed within our engine workshop.
Beyond the Engine Room: A 360° Repair Scope
In addition to the extensive engine-related tasks, the project covered a wide-ranging list of structural, mechanical, and safety enhancements, including:
Hydro blasting and steel renewal on the vessel’s hull to remove corrosion and restore structural integrity.
Painting of ballast tanks, ensuring corrosion protection in vital cargo-support areas.
Overhaul of all sea chest and overboard valves, key for water intake and discharge systems.
Anchor windlass drive gear renewal, a crucial upgrade for anchoring operations.
Pressure testing of cargo lines, reinforcing safety and operational reliability.
Conversion of a one-man cabin into a two-man cabin, improving onboard accommodation and crew efficiency.
Each of these activities was performed with strict adherence to quality standards, safety protocols, and timeline commitments. The project also included dry docking, tug assistance, general cleaning, pilotage, and berth management, all handled seamlessly by our operations team.
A Team Effort That Delivers
The successful delivery of MT EASTERN LIGHT’s repair marks another milestone in Grandweld’s growing portfolio of complex marine projects. From dockside coordination to deep technical interventions, our cross-functional team worked cohesively to complete the project on time and to the client’s satisfaction.
This successful project has been a reflection of our commitment to transparency, quality, and execution excellence.
